MCMC Fragrances - Monoi de Tiare

I stumbled upon MCMC Fragrances through this lovely interview back in spring and when I saw that my neighborhood Anthropologie store them, I went right ahead and bought this scent just to try it out...

...and to my pleasant surprise, it has been my most favorite scent all year.

I was never a big perfume person, so I always used to only wear very subtle, eau de toilette scents (this, this, and this -- yes, only these three), but Monoi de Tiare is now a true winner for me.

A big thank-you to Joanna! (Yes, I've been following her fabulous lifestyle blog since 2007! :^).

How to make slushies without a blender

If you have this, you can make this within minutes.

We just use whatever juice we have on hand and because everything's manual (no blades!), the boys can totally make their own slushies.

All done. The best part is that clean-up is so easy, which is v. important! :-)

(Do look around for sales. I've seen them go on sale for $9.99!)

Snow White

When we were hanging out with our friends in Irvine, California this summer, Aaron wore this swim vest that reminded us of Snow White for some reason...

(Did I say he has such porcelain-like fair skin, unlike the rest of us in the family? ;-)

That's all.

Adult acne and face mapping

(My acne-prone face!
See zits on nose, cheek, around lips, chin...just everywhere.
And that's me recovering from the zits. They're usually much, much worse.)

I started suffering from adult acne ever since I got pregnant with my first child, so it was eye-opening to read up on this insightful article that explains what is really going on whenever zits appear in different spots every now and then.

According to some dermatologists, "where you’re breaking out can reveal a lot about what’s going on in your body" and this, they say, is what an "acne face map" looks like:

Isn't it totally interesting?

Please go on over and read the article in its entirety and see if it's true for you.

How to tell if you have a great photographic memory

So... This is the result I got when I took this genius test:

According to the authors of the test, "only 1-2% of the human population has the ability to remember 80% of the faces they have seen at least once during their lifetime."

Isn't that crazy?

Additionally, this is what my result said:

"Are you even a human?
You possess the rare ability of remembering 80% of the faces you see.
This quality is so rare in people, that police forces in England have started working with people who have your special ability, asking them to find wanted criminals by looking at CCTV footage."

REALLY?!

Go on and take the test to see!

(And then of course, there was this other test on reading others' facial expressions and this is the result I got:

"You’re incredibly observant. You are very alert and have strong instincts. You are able to read people’s emotions and make sense of the way they are feeling in an instant. You don’t miss a beat and it is hard to get much past you! Have you ever thought about working as a detective?"

Maybe I should have tried to become a detective of some sort? Haha. :^)

Finding the ideal age gap between siblings

I don't know where we first heard/read it but back when Collin was around 18 months, Sung and I were so convinced that 3 years was the optimal age difference between siblings.

Now that Collin and Aaron are exactly 29 months apart and are playing so well, I forget that I used to worry so much about whether or not they'd get along.

(They do say 2-4 years is the most common age gap.)

Collin and Aaron in the fall of 2013; they were almost 5 years and 28 months, respectively
(Yes, Aaron was a gigantic baby)

If you're looking for the best way to space out your children, this good read lists a good number of pros and cons for every age considered by parents, and includes this hilarious sketch:

Yup, that was totally the scene in my household for a while until this spring.

Our favorite song

Believe it or not, Collin and Aaron's favorite song is "Close to You" by The Carpenters.

I used to sing it lots to Collin while nursing him (along with this beautiful song) and he actually still remembered it when I started singing it to Aaron when Aaron was born...

And now Aaron loves the song, too. They can't stop singing it, especially before going to bed. :-)

Can you believe these guys?!

(Yes, Aaron's shirt really does say:
"The Force is strong with this one" ;-)

Shearling-lined Bensimon tennis shoes

My very first pair of regular tennis shoes that I got in the summer of 2007...
I guess I took this picture because I was so giddy that I got them???

Yes, there is such a thing.

Here is my pair:

And I've just found the US vendor who sells these shearling-lined sneakers.

(Somebody please pat me on my back! :^)

As for summertime wear, this is what I like the best...

It may just be my feet but the tennis shoes (like the ones I'm wearing below) start to rip on the sides after about a dozen wears.

Ho hum.

That's me and Aaron during our Starbucks run :o)
