Where is "appa"?

In high hopes of staying true to our roots (Sung and I are both Korean-born - Sung was raised in the US and I was raised in Japan and the Philippines) by making Korean the primary language in our home, Sung and I have been speaking to Collin only in Korean ever since he was born. Collin's first official word (meaning, he knew exactly when to say the word) was "appa," which means "daddy" in Korean. Naturally, Sung was completely ecstatic when he first heard the little guy say it and has been grinning ear to ear ever since. Well, until a few days ago when we got this on video (OK, so we THOUGHT Collin knew exactly when to use the word - more practice, anyone?): Um... If you don't get what the clip is about... Look closely where Collin's "appa" is (right next to him) when Collin is chasing after an unidentified moving person (clearly NOT his "appa")...

According to The Wall Street Journal , IKEA unveiled yesterday a new collection of furniture (tables, desks, and lamps) that has wireless charging pads in them, and they are quite affordable: prices start at around $50! How amazing is that?! And an even better news, especially for those of you who already own a few pieces of IKEA furniture is that IKEA also announced it will sell wireless charging kits to build into existing furniture, starting at about $30... Not bad at all, right? (If you are wondering, " the wireless charging works through an energy induction transfer and the furniture itself needs to be connected to a power source ." ;o) Oh, thank you, technology! I'll be the first to run to my IKEA store when the collection hits the shelves on April 15, for sure! :o) (Image from The Wall Street Journal )

What to do when kiddos are bored

According to The Wall Street Journal , "kids who complain of boredom aren't necessarily lazy or slacking off, but are actually in a tense, negative state." And what you don't want to do is "mask the state of boredom with excessive stimulation," because "in the long term, it makes us more ripe for boredom." How true! Would you know what to do when your children say they are bored? According to the article, here are the " boredom busters ": - Take a breath. Resist the urge to get angry or punish the child for being 'lazy.' - Don't jump right in: Make the child responsible for finding a solution. - Limit screen time: including computer, video games, and TV. - Avoid the toy box: Guide the child toward imaginative or active play instead. - Fill a jar with paper slips with the child's ideas for things to do. - Suggest chores that will make other options seem more appealing.
